Inca Trail Excursion - Article

The Inca Trail is located in the Andes Mountains within the South American country of Peru.  It was the traditional way the Inca would set to arrive at their Ancient city of Machu Picchu located high at about 2,500 meters above sea level.  Many tourists choose to take this Inca trail excursion and arrive to Machu Picchu the traditional way of the Inca.

The Inca trail is very frequented by tourists thanks to the 'traditionalist appeal' it offers the various visitors that arrive in Cusco.  Before taking this Inca trail excursion and arriving in Machu Picchu you might want to fully explore the city of Cusco.  A Cusco city tour can be very entertaining and informative, on the way you will see how the locals live and how there is a merger of traditional customs and westernized ones.

From Cusco you can also have a sacred valley tour, one of the most interesting tours you can take, try some traditional food in the gourmet restaurants Cusco has to offer and many other activities.  Once you set off for your Inca Trail excursion you will likely have to make your way to Ollantaytambo and board the train to Aguas Calientes.

Ollantaytambo has some ruins which are definitely worth exploring and it also has a great street market making it a great place to buy souvenirs.   Once you take the train it will most likely take you 30-45 minutes to arrive in Aguas Calientes, a town at the bottom of Machu Picchu.  It’s most likely that you will spend a night here and leave for your Machu Picchu excursion first thing the next morning.  Take this time to rest up and visit some of the local bars and restaurants around here, you’d be surprised by the amount of pizzerias located in this small town located in the middle of the Andes Mountains.
