COLCA: the experience of the world’s deepest canyon |
| |

The Colca River is Peru’s longest coastal river that during thousands of years created the world’s deepest canyon at 3400 meters of depression. The firsts civilizations settled in around 8 thousand years ago and during centuries its inhabitants created complex exchange commercial nets that nowadays still work: fruits, tubers, and vegetables from the lower part were exchanged with meat and camelids’ wool from the upper part. There are huge differences in height in the canyon that benefits the biodiversity of plants and animals, which mayor representative is the Andean Condor, the world’s biggest flying bird, with its 3.5 meters of wingspan and 15 kg weight. This canyon is also one of the most innovator centers in textile and embroidery techniques, using natural dyes, sheep and camelids wool. The activities designed by Casa Andina permit the traveler live a cultural, historic and natural experience in the Colca Canyon. |
